When becoming a member of FAU, you will get an account in the Identity Management System
IDM.
IDM gives you access to numerous services at FAU, such as Wi-Fi, email, your FAU card
and the University Library.
In this video, we will guide you through the activation of the most important services.
Managing and activation of the services is done in the IDM portal.
To get access to the IDM portal, you will need your activation letter.
This letter contains your user ID and a single-use activation password.
How you receive the letter depends on your status at FAU.
Enrolled bachelor's and master's students receive the letter from the student's records
office after enrolment.
Interns can apply for IDM with their internship contract and a form provided by the FAU help
desk.
Staff who have an employment contract with FAU will automatically receive the letter
by post.
Doctoral candidates will receive the letter after registering in the DOC DARTON portal
and requesting the letter from the graduate center.
International researchers, who do not have an employment contract with FAU and are not
undertaking a doctoral degree, can get the activation letter via their FAU department.
They are considered as guest researchers.
After you have received the IDM activation letter, please go to idm.fau.de.
Follow the activation buttons and in the corresponding fields submit your IDM ID as well as your
IDM activation password.
Please read and accept the data privacy policy to proceed.
Submit your new password according to the guidelines.
Log in to your IDM account with the new password.
One of the most important features is the activation of your email address.
You can choose it from the listed options or generate an alternative.
Please have in mind that your email should contain your given name and surname in this
order.
With giving your full name in this order, you make it much easier for the recipients
of your emails to identify the sender.
After you have activated your email address, please make sure to choose your preferred
delivery options.
You can activate a separate mailbox or have the emails forwarded to an already existing
email account.
If required, update your private address in the menu on the left side.
In the tab Requests Tasks or in your Data Overview activate your library account and
printing of your FAU card.
Enter your academic title if desired, doctor or professor.
Select the data privacy regulations.
Activate the printing of your FAU card.
Please note that this step cannot be undone.
And you are done!
The FAU card will now be sent to your address.
Upon prior announcement, you can also pick it up from the FAU card office.
Student cards are printed externally, so they will be sent directly to the student's address.
Please note that the card will not be sent abroad.
We hope this video supported you in accessing your FAU online services.
