Photon pairs from nanoscale sources (Antrittsvorlesung/Inaugural lecture)
Abstract:
Pairs of entangled photons, commonly generated through spontaneous parametric down-conversion, are indispensable for photonic quantum technologies. Their use makes communication safer, optical measurements more precise, and imaging less noisy. But modern technology needs smaller sources of such pairs. In my talk I will show how we generate them from ‘flat’ sources – subwavelength layers and metasurfaces – and what advantages it offers.
