Okay, once more, hello everybody. My name is Christian Schmidt Engel and I'm the Managing
Director of the LVU Graduate Center. And as in the last days, a couple of questions appeared
and came up especially at the offices of Doctor Affairs on the new doctor regulation that
was put in force at 1st of July at FAU. We thought it would be a good idea to have this
meeting today just to give you a short idea of what the changes are and give you the opportunity
to ask a couple of questions. I prepared a short presentation and the aim is to guide you through
the changes that are there and give me a second to share my slides. As I said, we are talking
about the new general doctor regulations and to make sure that we know what we are talking about,
I just would like to show you this process of gaining a doctoral degree at FAU to make sure
that some terms are understood. And I would like to point out that a first administrative step is
the registration in DocDaten followed by the application for admission, also the
Entrag auf Zulassung and then finally the admission as a doctoral researcher because this is an
important step, die Zulassung zur Promotion. And at the end of your doctorate, there's a second
administrative step where you submit your thesis, which is called Eröffnung des Promotionsverfahren
or the initiation of the doctoral procedure, which is essentially the review of your thesis,
your defense and the publication of your thesis. And the regulations to guide this process are at
FAU in a hierarchical system. We have the general doctor regulations that we are talking about,
which regulates the general aspects of the doctoral procedure. And we do have doctoral
degree specific faculty doctor regulations or the abbreviation is F-Promo for several
doctoral degrees. And this is just to make sure that you understand the system because these
faculty specific or doctoral degree specific regulations are important for
define the specific steps and processes in the doctoral process for the specific doctoral degree.
But now we are talking about the general doctoral regulations, the new version at FAU, which was put
into force at the 1st of July. And I would like to, and I would show you a couple of quotes from
these regulations. And I'm very sorry that we don't have that document right now in an English
version, but it will be available soon also in English so that you can check the regulations by
yourself, which is a strong suggestion by myself. So go into the text and check what is written there.
I just would like to mention here that you don't get confused. There are two dates mentioned.
The doctoral regulations, the general doctoral regulations was put into force at the 1st of July,
but in some aspects you may find the information also that is the doctoral regulations by the
from 27th of June, both dates are in the document. So don't get confused about that.
I would try to just briefly summarize what is new in this document. And the first step that is
newly introduced is a paragraph on the compensation for disadvantages. I don't want to go into detail
there. And then we have some changes in the ninth paragraph, which is on the admission of a doctorate
and the timely limitation of this admission. Let's look into the text there.
This is a possibility for a time limited admission, which is given in the general
doctoral regulation, which makes it possible that the degree specific doctoral regulations,
the F promos can introduce such a time limited admission. And as this is the case, this rule
will only apply to doctoral researchers who will be admitted after a potential adoption
by this regulation in the faculty specific doctor regulations. This is a very important aspect,
because it means that nearly all of you will not be, this rule will not be relevant for nearly all
of you apart from those who are going for doctorate, so a doctorate in theology, because this
faculty doctor regulation already adopted this rule here. And the rule is looks like that.
It is a timely limited admission to your doctorate, which will be limited between four and six years.
And I think if it will be put into force at the faculties, in most cases, it will be six years.
And what then happens is that after six years, you will get a message by Dr. Darten, of course,
with several reminders that you please need to state if you would like to continue or if you're
still working at your doctorate, because these first prolongation period for another two years
here will be given without any argumentation. If after then eight years, you need more time,
you can again ask for a prolongation and then with a short explanation, and this will then be
