It’s a pleasure to welcome Don QiuDirector of the Unified Diagnostic and Treatment Research Center at Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen, head of Surgical Robot Program at the Institute for Precision Medicine at Tsinghua University and founder of Precison MedTech, a surgical robot company at our lab!

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), commonly known as primary liver cancer, is a major cause of malignant tumors and cancer-related deaths in China, accounting for approximately 50% of population worldwide. The treatment of a liver cancer patient has four steps starting from early screening, diagnosis, surgery and postoperative management. MRI provides great value on liver cancer screening and diagnosis with superb soft tissue contrast. There is also a trend from using MRI for diagnostic towards using MRI for image guided interventions and therapy. Such trend redefines liver cancer minimally invasive surgery, by putting patient at the center of a theranostics system, consisting of MRI system along with robotics, ablation energy platform, artificial intelligence and telemedicine altogether. Surgeries involving moving organs such as liver has demanding requirements in terms of the real-time image guidance, not only for needle insertion, but also for albation region monitoring and postoperatie evaluation. It requires three freatures, an autonomous segmentation and path planning AI, a MR in-bore compatible robot, a temperature mapping algorithm. In this talk, we would introduce the technologies for Image-guided minimally invasive surgery with MRI-compatible robot and a paradigm for screening, diagnosis and treatment for China, aiming at massively improving the survival rate of liver caner.

Prof. Don Qiu
Since 2016 Don has served at Tsinghua University as director of the Institute of Data Science for big data innovation ecosystem, and as assistant dean of the Institute for Precision Medicine responsible for strategy and achievements transformation. Before that, he had worked in the industry as head of global technologies strategy and business development for Nokia, director of strategy for AMD Greater China, and director of product management for Motorola China. Before his returning to China in 2004, Don worked for the GPU company ATI at Canada as senior product manager. Don graduated from Physics Department of Fudan University, Microelectronics Department of National University of Singapore and Ivey Business School in Canada.
