It’s a pleasure to welcome Prof. Dr. Chalup to our lab to present his latest ideas!

Abstract: This presentation explores the interplay of topology, geometry, and machine learning to address challenges in high-dimensional data analysis, and real-time object detection. The topics include a neural network approach for analysing the topology of 4D image data, and a geometric method for achieving highly efficient real-time object detection. The study of neurotopological manifolds offers insights into the dynamic topological evolution of neural networks during learning.  The presentation addresses computational challenges, interdisciplinary applications, and the potential for advancing AI through innovative methodologies.

Short Bio: Professor Stephan Chalup leads the Interdisciplinary Machine Leaning Group and the Newcastle Robotics Lab at the University of Newcastle in Australia. He received his PhD in 2002 from Queensland University of Technology. His research interests include artificial neural networks, topological data analysis, and various aspects and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
