This course is supposed to provide the students with the following content concerning the global retail industry: 

- Module 1: Overview,  
- Module 2: Characteristics & Basics  
- Module 3: Trends & Challenges 
- Module 4: POS Logistics 
- Module 5: Interfaces 
- Module 6: Load units & Transport logistics 
- Module 7: Cross Docking 
- Module 8: Warehousing & Distribution 
- Module 9: Sourcing Challenges in Emerging Markets

 

This course distinguishes itself through a high application orientation with a specific emphasis on retail logistics. The course is thereby focused predominantly on the operational area in retail logistics and thus offers a comprehensive introduction and enhancement in the area of global retail logistics. The lecturer can prove many years of practical experience in responsible positions as well as activities within logistical committees and offers therefore a particularly grounded theoretical and practical added value for the students. 
By including a guest lecturer, who specialized in the upcoming emerging markets (especially India and China) during his research, this course provides a global perspective on the status quo and future developments in the area of low-cost country sourcing to the students.

 

Learning outcomes: 
By completing the course, the students will understand the peculiarities of logistics in the retail industry better and deeper. The following learning objectives are anticipated: 
- Knowledge and understanding of the topic retail logistics and its specific requirements 
- Understanding of the influence and changes in retail logistics with regard to emerging markets 
- Based on various practical examples the students understand retail industry specific peculiarities relating to the usage of logistics processes  
- The students have the ability to apply the relevant methods of planning, control and monitoring of logistics processes in the retail industry 
- The self-study concept of the course encourages self-organization and -discipline as well as the self-dependent time management of the students
