This video shows exemplary that the LSS at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg is capable of simulating self-propelled particle complexes. In this video we selected two self-propelled particle complexes for a swimming contest. Here a three-sphere swimmer competes against a three-capsule swimmer. It should be noted that the same driving forces are applied on the bodies in this simulation, and any differences in their motion are due to their different shapes. In addition, the characteristic flow field around the three-sphere swimmer is shown. Moreover, we can also take advantage of the flexibility of our framework and simulate not only symmetric swimmers shown in this video but also asymmetric swimmers combining capsule and sphere geometries which has not been possible so far.
